QUICK GUIDE

In WORDMINGLE, you're given two words that are mingled together, leaving you with ten jumbled letters that you have to sort out. You’ll need both your WORDMINGLE box and a device that can access the web to play.

SETTING UP

Go to www.wordmingle.app on your device to select either the daily WORDMINGLE challenge or a random challenge. After you choose your game mode, you’ll be shown ten letters. Find the letter tiles from your WORDMINGLE box that match the letters on your screen and place them in your 10 wood-colored tile holders. Then press the “I’m ready” button.

PLAYING THE GAME

Most of your WORDMINGLE game is focused on the physical tiles in front of you as you move them around to try to form words with the letters, but the web app’s main hub allows you to type in guesses, give yourself hints, and keep track of your score. The top two squares on the screen of your web app tell you how many letters are in each of the two words that you’re trying to guess. The bottom left square tells you your score, and the bottom right square can be clicked to obtain hints. Every time you give yourself a hint or guess incorrectly, your score goes up by one, so the goal is to finish with the lowest possible score.

GETTING HINTS

The hints in WORDMINGLE are designed to give you the exact level of challenge that makes the game enjoyable for you. When you press the “HINT” tile on the web app, you’ll be taken to a screen showing all ten of your letters. You can tap on a letter to receive a hint, which tells you which word that letter belongs to. (Your first hint comes with a random extra hint at no extra cost to your score.) The letter you select will now appear with either a black or white border on your screen. Replace that letter’s physical wood-colored tile holder with a white or black tile holder from your box to match the hint you received.

When you go back to the web app’s main hub, you’ll see a black or white border around the top two tiles that tell you how many letters are in each word. So, if the “6-Letter” tile has a white border, then you’ll know all your letters with white tile-holders are part of the six-letter word.

GUESSING WORDS

If you are ready to guess a word, you can type it into the guess box at the bottom of the web app’s main hub and press enter. If you guess incorrectly, your score will go up by one. If you guess an incorrect word that contains all the same letters as a correct word, the web app will tell you this to keep you on track .

If you are completely stumped, you can type in “GIVE UP” for your guess and press enter to be told what the two correct words are and finish the game. Giving up automatically gives you a score of 15, which is the max possible score.

RULES & TIPS

  • A WORDMINGLE game will always jumble together two, and only two, words. The two words are always either two five-letter words, or a 6-letter word and a 4-letter word. There will always be 10 letters total.
  • If for some reason you don’t have enough of the right letters in your WORDMINGLE box to match what you’re shown on the web app, you can grab one of your blank tiles or flip over another letter tile and write the needed letter on the blank with a marker or pen.
  • WORDMINGLE will never select plural nouns (e.g. “comics”), proper names (e.g. “David”), or past-tense verbs (e.g. “hiked”), so don’t waste a guess on one of the three P’s!
  • It’s usually not recommended to enter a guess for one word unless you can come up with a guess for the other word that you’re not guessing, also.
  • If you’re playing a game with a 6-letter and 4-letter word, it’s recommended to try to determine the 6-letter word first, since there are so many possibilities for 4-letter words.
  • If you’re feeling stuck, try shuffling all the letter tiles together randomly and rearranging them to look at them from a different perspective.
  • Once you guess one word correctly or put in a guess that’s the right letters but the wrong word, the hints become obsolete. You’ll know exactly which letters go with which words. You can change out all the wood-colored tile-holders to be white or black, or just separate the letters in front of you to save time.

WAYS TO PLAY

Playing the daily WORDMINGLE lets you record and compare your scores with other players. It’s recommended to total your score for the whole week of daily WORDMINGLE games for a more interesting competition and as a way of encouraging you to keep up the healthy habit. Any game of WORDMINGLE can be played in a group with others, so you can also compete as couples or families, working on the daily challenges together in your homes.

There’s no point in playing the daily game twice because it will always be the same two words, so long as it’s the same day. Random games automatically select two new words for you every time you play so that each game is unique. The random game mode will update the URL on your device so you can share the link with others, giving them the exact same words that have been randomly selected for you without revealing what they are to either of you. This is a great way of continuing to play WORDMINGLE with others, locally or online, while still sharing the same challenges.

Get creative and come up with different ways to play and compete, like giving your group a time limit to see who can solve the challenge with the lowest score before the time runs out, or challenging another player to a WORDMINGLE duel, coming up with the two words for each other to see who can stump the other and come out on top!
